If your child has an outgoing personality and enjoys being the center of attention, the flute might be for them! Flutists tend to stand at the front of the band. The saxophone and trumpet are two other great instruments that extroverts enjoy playing.

If your child’s personality is a bit on the analytical side and into solving problems (math team!), let your fingers ride down the piano. This will keep your child’s brain thinking and make every movement exciting.

Along with personality, body types can impact the instrument you’re destined to play. If your child is on the smaller side, don’t go for the bassoon because it’s six feet tall! If you consider your child’s body type before purchasing an instrument, it can save you a lot of money in the long run. You don’t want your child to have intense difficulties playing an instrument that maybe doesn’t fit their physique.

Perhaps you want your child to begin playing an instrument very young. If this is the case, pick up the violin. The violin is comes in a variety of sizes making it a very universal instrument. Children as young as 2 and 3 years old play the violin.

At the end of the day, you have to be interested in your instrument. If you’re an introvert who just happens to love playing the flute – go with it! We believe there is a right instrument out there for everyone. Even if it takes you a few tries, we know you’ll find your key instrument if you don’t give up.
